If you’re planning to go shopping at Edinburgh’s Primark, opening times are 8:00 in the morning from Monday through Saturday. On Sundays, the store opens at 9:00. Located on Princes Street, Primark opened this outlet in Edinburgh in December 2011. Covering an area of 75,000 square feet, the store has a second entrance for customers on Rose Street. At the time, the city was going through an economic downturn and the move was very welcome to the the city’s council. Around 7,000 potential customers signed up on the survey conducted by Primark, indicating their eagerness to see a Primark in Edinburgh.
On their part, the city’s councillors were happy that Primark viewed Princes Street as a possible successful shopping destination. The coming of the chain translated into many jobs and was a great positive for customers that had to travel to Glasgow or Livingston to shop at the Primark there. Perhaps, the company heralded the development of the street as you see it today. On their part, customers love the fact that the early opening times of Primark Edinburgh made it possible to shop on workdays. They also enjoy picking up the latest of fashion trends at the store at very affordable prices. And, the fact that the many mirrors in the store make it fun to try on apparel before buying them.
By the end of 2014, the chain had come up with plans to open a second Primark in Edinburgh at Gyle Shopping Centre at the Fort Kinnaird retail park. This new store would occupy the premises currently housing Toys R Us that was spread over an area of 40,000 square feet. (Watch for the new Primark in Edinburgh’s opening times here.) In a way, this upcoming outlet represented the city’s about turn from the recession it was going through. It was also projected to create almost 300 new jobs. Understandably, this move was again welcomed by the city’s leaders. They saw it as a fresh sign that the city was viewed as a profitable investment possibility by global chains.
Earlier this year, the second Primark in Edinburgh ran into some legal hassles. The Marks & Spencer outlet that was also housed in the Gyle Shopping Centre protested over the centre’s proposal to construct over a section of the car park. This move was made to accommodate the new Primark so it could start a two-storey store covering an area of 55,000 square feet. However, M&S lost the motion even as other Gyle retailers also supported the car park takeover.
Now that the legal issues are sorted, you can look forward to a new Primark in Edinburgh. So, tell us. How has the coming of the brand to your city affected you? Are you looking forward to the new Primark Edinburgh’s opening time? What do you think about the legal wrangles?
